Downloaded Werewolf and so it begins
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:04:03 AM »
Alright, so after the long wait I have my hands on the Werewolf Beta. I downloaded the beta last night(according to the counter I was the first  :clap Small Victories :clap). First thing I did was fire it up and used the drop down menu's to fill in my fuel table and and 1G timing map. So far pretty awesome... but wait my timing map is all screwy... In my excitement I must of skimmed over Hak's message explicitly saying not to use those cause, "it'll basically be the death of you lol." So I went to work on the timing map. I had a copy of the 1g and 2g timing maps in relation to pressure and managed to extrapolate from there. Once I got above 10psi I noticed that HAK's timing map actually extrapolated from mine almost perfectly so I only had to do 2/3rd's the work (Thanks man!) I went to set my deadtimes and I recalled HAK mentioning on the ol'board that he thought deadtimes should be applied differently from the add -330 to all the numbers, but I couldn't find it. What I did find was that somebody from the Evolution board had the deadtimes for the 2 ohm FIC 850cc injectors (which I run).

GTVEVO from Evolutionm.net: FIC 850cc lag time
Volts uSec
----- ------
6v 2550 uSec

7v 2370 uSec

8v 1690 uSec

9v 1300 uSec

10v 1020 uSec

11v 870 uSec

12v 740 uSec

13v 620 uSec

14v 510 uSec

15v 430 uSec

16v 370 uSec

These are quite different from the numbers I run (+330) and I'm not really sure why. Maybe Hak or somebody with more know how can chime in on that one. I setup the fuel map for basic tuning, which was super easy due to not wondering how my pressure related to load (actual values are liberating). Now I am ready to start tuning, I am going to start from scratch on my VE and up my fuel injector pressure to 43psi to get them most out of them as my HX-35 will max out my 850cc injectors easily. My first tune will be for E85 then I will switch back to 93 and see if I can't get 30+ mpg's out of the beast. I shot off my key e-mail to Hak this morning and will get started after work tonight. According to Hak's message it seems there are just a few of us testing the beta. I'm hoping that Ibanez will pop in here with his tune so we can get a better idea of how things should be.

Yes dont use the drop down for any of them other than the injectors.  Now the usec thing, I to had the same question, but as Hak pointed out, it doesnt make since to just add a static value all the way across.  I used some his settings and they work just fine.

The link is only for a select few who also happened to prepay, not everyone can download it right now. We are still testing things and improving the feature set...

Just an update. I have been using and tweaking Werewolf for two weeks solid now. My car was down a few weeks in March because I was changing out the turbo oil drain on the Holset with BEP housing and ran into some issues. Long story short, 2x45* pushlock fittings, cut the 3rd barb off each so only 2 barbs are left, approx 3-4 inches total of pushlock hose, and don't waste your money on the STM oil drain kit if you have the bep housing. The only parts I ended up using were the 10 an adapters and one 45* fitting.

So back to the Werewolf tune.
Using Snap's VE tuning spreadsheet my tune is pretty rock solid in the vaccuum/cruise portion and I am working on the boost portion. I am up to 22psi and have hit a wall with my BOV blowing open and a couple boost leaks in my upper intercooler pipe. I have a stainless 2.5in 45* bend to replace the POS I received with my Punishment Racing budget intercooler kit. The BOV mount was to tall and caused the 1g bov to hit the hood. I had to cut it and braze it since I didn't have a welder at that time(4 years ago) and now it is leaking at the braze. Rather than futz with the garage mod I ordered a SSQV and flange to eliminate possible BOV issues. I have run into a little bit of knock at 22 psi but it is most likely a rich knock issue and the BOV could be contributing to the issue. If you are tuning without Snap's VE Tuning Spreadsheet, you are really doing yourself a disservice. It used to take me a couple hours to break down the data into pivot tables and make the changes to the VE map using the Ve formula but with Snap's spreadsheet I can do it in 15 minutes. It is awesome!!! My car has never run better! Throttle response is instantaneous and it revs so unbelievably smooth! I can't stop telling people about it. My car is getting stupid fast, entering the freeway at 95mph calls for new brakes (should be here this week) and I can't wait to get it all buttoned down so I can hit the dyno to and see if I've made my goal (400hp). Kind of a rambling update but I am feeling :spaz :spaz :spaz :willynilly :willynilly :spaz :spaz :spaz

Forgive me if this is off topic and a stupid question but does werewolf increase your horsepower over Jackal?

Mid range probably, peak most likely not. More granularity with rpm, and pressure based maps give you more tuning overall.

It potentially does in that it gives you the ability to fine tune to a greater degree.  It's not that it gives you more power necessarily, it's more that it allows you to create a more complete tune which can result in more power.
