Tial BOV spring
« on: February 02, 2011, 01:04:19 PM »
Well just got my car running with a tial bov that I picked up a couple months ago. Well i was looking at the bov while my car was idling and the bov is wide open. I was just woundering what spring do yall use in your tial bov.

Thanks,
 Bryce

Measure your vacuum and get an appropriate spring. Open at idle isn't necessarily bad, but ideally you want it as least resistive as possible, while still sealing. So if the next step it doesn't open / close while at idle it may induce some surge or fluttering.

I ran I think a #7 in mine.. opened and closed at idle, stayed closed under everything else.

Trust me i run the q,i have tried a couple different springs all i end up with is surge,i run jackal so it really dont matter if it is closed or not at idle, doesn't affect anything cause once you hit the throttle she closes so its all good.I love my q would not trade it for any other

Im talking about the bov not wastegates. Well I bought the 11psi spring and put it in and the bov fluttered so bad so i took it out and put the 7lb spring in and added washers untill it stayed closed at idle. So i guess you do not have to buy different springs but to just shim the 7lb one.

I had nothing but flutter with the 11psi spring that came with my tial.  Minimal flutter since swapping it out for the 7psi spring.  It's slightly open at idle, but doesn't seem to affect anything.  I do worry about debris, etc getting sucked in, but so far have had no problems.  It's probably been like that a couple of years now.

Is there any particular reason why it's desirable to have the bov closed it idle ? (aside from the obvious uncleaned air getting in).  Throttle response maybe ?

my Forge is also open at idle.  Its not going to get anything in there tho its blowing out about as much air as a  hair dryer!  Its actually quite a large amount coming out.  As soon as you crack the throttle it closes and it doesn't surge or flutter so I guess its all good.
