That's not too terrible, I was going to guess about 5k.  Timing is a bit low(as you stated) and revving it out to 8k will help a good bit, at least enough to keep it above 5k after the 2-3 shift.

Looking forward to more results!  I'm really curious what it will do at the track :)

Played with it a bit on the way to work today. More timing and 12.5 AFRS’s actually seemed to slow down the spool a tad. I may go back to low timing and rich AFRs around 3500-4500. Then slowly lean it out and add timing.

I’ve always had issues reving these engines over 7k and shifting. I haven’t even tried with the new trans/clutch setup. I was really hoping to keep the rpms down low around 6800 on the shifts and boost high around 30-40 depending on what the clutch will take. High boost doesn’t scare me, but RPMS sure do! I'm also on the factory valve train.

Brief pull to 29lbs pegged DC at 114% at 5900rpm, also started to knock (alot).  AFRs were in the high 11’s though, not sure whats happening there.  I figure I’ll cross that road when I get a better fuel system and a little more seat time with the new setup. Not sure I have the fuel pump for much more power on e85 either. I’d really like to setup a direct port meth injection kit on a spare manifold I have instead of going crazy with the fuel system.  4 7gph jets should get me the equivalent of about 4 additional 440cc injectors. Using the progressive controller to bring in the meth slowly shouldn’t be difficult to tune. This way I could keep the 1000cc injectors and factory fuel system for drivability.

We are down to 2 e85 stations in town now. I know as soon as I shell out the cash to beef up my fuel system, e85 will disappear.

Man I can't wait to start using E-85 we have 2 or 3 stations where I am at, one is on my way home from work and the other is way out of the way lol.  Seems like the setup is doing pretty good your spool numbers amost seem like they are on par with an HX-52.  Maybe its time to get some nitrous instead of meth ;-).

This is my daily driver, I have a "race" car.  I can live with the slower spool, although I think I can improve it a bit. If I weren't lazy I'd install a set of factory cams. I really think they are tough to beat if you don't plan on reving the motor over 7k. I also would have went with an HX35 if I had my way. I couldn't find any for a decent price so I went with a friends hx40. No way I'll be pushing this turbo to it's max.

Ahh fair enough, well I wish you the best of luck I hope you can get your spool numbers where you want them.

Small update.

Larger tires improved spool a bit. I ditched the 1.5” drop springs and reinstalled OEM springs. Got my ride height up and swapped the 25.3” tall tires for some 27” tires.  The car drives so much nicer on these horrible Kansas roads now. Unfortunately body roll is pretty bad. No more high speed off-ramp fun for me! I’m seeing full boost (25psi) by 4500-4600rpm now. Shifting at speed I never drop below this point so I think I’ll be good to go in the ¼ mile. Improved my MPG as well with the lower cruise rpm.

The OBX manifold cracked at the WG tube. I repaired and braced it. I’ll throw pics up later. The car looks pretty silly at this ride height!

Crack...

So here is my attempt at TIG welding. Swept wide to try for more strength.

Grabbed some scrap from the bin and made a brace as well. I'm picking up one of the 02 housing bolts for the brace. When I cleaned up the scrap I realized it was some type of old ruler!  LOL  I'll clean it up and paint it all later, I was pressed for time. The Flex WG exhaust is also a temp. fix. Although having the flex piping clamped to the down pipe also provides support. I didn't run any type of WG exhaust during the clutch break in period.

original and best looking of course.

Off topic, but hey we have the same color car :-).  Glad to see that you got the spool times down a little bit.  She pulling pretty good?
