BOV boost limits
« on: February 22, 2011, 01:53:22 PM »
So I am currently of the mind state that I will either run 1G BOV's or TiAL's. My question is, I have a dodge garage modded 1G BOV (Thanks Andrew) and a couple unmolested BOV's. I intend on running 23-25PSI on my FP3065 this year and was wondering if the Dodge Garage 1G will be fine for this setup, and if not, would running 2 1G BOV's prove advantageous...

A dodge garage modded 1g BOV will handle as much psi as you can throw at it(within the diaphragm's burst strength) since there will be more force acting on the top diaphragm than pushing up on the plunger.  The diaphragm has more area and will see the same psi while under WOT boost.

The response won't be quite as quick with the bottom port open to atmosphere but you can use a setup similar to a bleeder style MBC to find a happy medium between holding the psi you need and releasing as quick as possible.

I would just get the Tial.  You can get them on Ebay used for $150 or less.

I messed around with stock, cushed, Turbododge'd modified and finally just with with the Tial.  Everything else always leaked boost.

I currently have been using a greddy RS upto 25 psi and it has held 100% of the time with no problems.  But today I just got my brand new Tial Q 50mm BOV in and Im installing it with my Brand New ETS Race FMIC setup :)  its fabulous :)....

Not quite the boost you plan to run, but i dodge garage modded my 1g bov and its held 21psi no problems for a long time.  I boost leak test at 25, so... Yeah
In order to make this work, I have to change 2 things;  one of them is the Laws of Physics.  Dammit..

Ibbanez - please make sure you video yout BOV. I just love Tial sound!

I have a dodge garage modded bov installed (didn't do it myself - I bought it like that) top end connected to the manifold and bottom one to the turbo boost source. When I do a boost leak test it opens at very low pressure (like 3-4 psi). I am not sure if it is normal when BLTesting?

Your not supposed to connect both sources ?? I thought the lower was just for atmosphere ?

Also, witht he Dodge Garage modded BOV, the link to how to setup a quick release feature is no longer valid. Anybody have some simple ideas on how to setup a solenoid system to change to quick release at the flip of a switch?

Connecting the lower source is for quick release only.

Use the FPS controls in jackal, and run extra hoses ?

I never got a chance to start really diving into jackal and utilizing all it's features but I will certainly look into it once I get my car back together.

I've pondered over setting up a solenoid to send pressure to the bottom port once you let off the throttle, but I think the problem is how much time it would take to fill the lower chamber(the key thing is response in the first place).  The secret is having the lower chamber already pressurized, but not quite pressurized enough to make it leak when at full boost.  Just get the extra oomph to make it open a little quicker.

Seriously though, with the bottom chamber open to atmosphere it will NOT leak at any psi unless it physically blows the damn thing apart.

So doing the DG mod will hold boost nomatter if the lower port is connected, right? The only difference between open and hooked lower port will be the speed of the release and the boost hold capability will not be affected. Have I understood this correctly?
