Tuning help
« on: January 19, 2012, 04:14:26 PM »
I am new to standalone ECU's i general, I need a dumbed down version on exactly how to use this ECU. So far the only adjustments I can figure out are under the options menu under ''VE'' and then it brings up fuel, timing, ve comp, and ve. So far the base map seems to be rich with AFRs not much higher than 12.1 so I don't know If I can actually drive the vehicle without damaging anything on this base map. In the tuning guide it says'' flatten out your fuel table'' well I actually can't figure out how to make any adjustments to the fuel tables, it just highlights the box and I've tried severa different things and nothing seems to be changing the values of the base map.

Sorry for twenty questions
#1. how do I make adjustments to flatten out fuel table?
#2. what is VE and VE comp?
#3.I can't choose any higher than than 721cc injectors and I'm pretty sure mine are 870cc
#4. what is DS2 and how can I send logs to you?

thanks

What version of what software are you using ?

The wiki is a good place to start, http://wiki.ds-map.net

sorry It says ostrich 2.0, i've figured out a little bit more by utilizing the search bar on this forum. I have the injector cc calculated pretty close they're 725cc RC's but I don't know if I have to add to the deadtimes. still really rich and the fuel table is now 13.07 rows 1-6 and 10.87 rows 7-10.

By the way this is a carryover issue from a previous thread Geoff999 start up issues. The start up is longer an issue car starts and drives, just not very good.

thanks im sorry I missed that. So still a few more questions, do you have to make adjustments key on engine off?  I still can't figure out how to send logs, I have a zietronix logger and I'm not sure how to get saved files of mine on this site.  And I just want to know what you think about the setup on this car and if it will work well as a somewhat reliable weekend track car. (FP 16g turbo, RC 725cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, FMIC) and I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator adjusted to the PSI that the RC site recommends I think its 44 psi I'll have to look in a few.

Did you buy Geoff's jackal setup ? I am confused still as to what software and/or version you are using.

Is it straight forward on how to tranfer through e-mail? he says he doesn't know how, and may I ask why?

If I make a version that requires a manual update, you will be ineligible since your forum status isn't updated.

Ya just have him email me, paypal id# and who its going to.

Have you figured out how to change the values in a box?  Just highlight the box you want to change and then right click and then use the + and  - buttons.  You should be able to bring up the size of your injectors that way.  Raising the size of the injector will take out fuel globally, so that will help with your richness.

Setup your dead times:  http://forums.ds-map.net/installation/injector-deadtimes-database/
That will give you an idea where you need to be.  On my setup, the base map is very rich, and I had to tune the VE a lot, so you may have to aswell.

Once you get it somewhere reasonable you can start tuning your VE.  What can help is to open 2 instances of the program at once, that way you can log on one, and make changes to the other while you can still see the log.
Try to log Rpm and map, that way you have an idea of where you are at on the VE table.

Yes I figured out how to change values, It seemed like I had to lower VE a buttload to get it close. I was at idle and chose the map reading I was at( -22) I think it was at idle. Then My idea was to raise the rpm and lower the VE until I got my target AFR and do that through out the rev range. When I lowered the VE and started putting around the AFR leaned way out and the car sputtered and didnt seem right, so I thought then that my overall injector setting was incorrect or some other adjustment. Is this an incorrect way to tune? should I be adjusting timing first?

So I changed the injector cc and it leaned it out to about 12.8 at idle. It still pops and sputters but I haven't adjusted the timing at all. At WOT the AFR is 9.6 and I boosted to 23 psi even though its programed to cut at 10psi. Kinda weird, well Im going to adjust the VE a little bit here and there to try and lean it out at WOT

You are on the right track. Get the afrs where you want it then you can play with timing, one place you may want to pull a degree or two out is in the high load areas.  What are you using to control boost?  You said it is programed to cut at 10psi, are you talking about the boost control in the program?   That setting adjusts a pulse width, you don't actually set a psi you want to hit.   Get your boost under control before you do wide open pulls.

Post up a log also.  You can use the VE tuning sheet I made in another thread, or just post your log and ds2 (the file it creates when you save in the program)
