Need help with ball joints or poly bushings?
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:13:08 PM »
Just wanted to let everyone on here know, I have a cheapo harbor freight press and a ball joint kit so if anyone on here needs their ball joints changed or old bushings removed and new ones put in let me know.  If you pay for shipping (and parts obviously) I will do it free of charge.  I get a discount on shipping with fed ex so hit me up if you need it done and I will elaborate on the details of shipping.

I know most on here are great DIYer's but for those of you that don't have the tools I am happy to try to help out.

Disclaimer: I can't guarantee my work ha ha.  I have replaced ball joints and and bushings in the control arms (front and rear) on my car so that is the extent of my experience.

Recommendations on brand of balljoints?

I just did balljoints and tie rod ends in the DD with parts from the dealership. Not sure if I should do OEM here too?

Moog stuff is usually pretty well made and strong.  Most of them are greaseable too.

I use that or Beck Arnly at work, with good results.  There are definately some cheaper brands out there but I would stay away from those except on a serious budget and only on a non performance car.

Make sure you get an alignment after, don't just hope that counting the threads on the tie rods is good enough.  You might get lucky, but you might be out enough on the toe to wear out your front tires quickly.

Oh you mean like when I did the ball joints and tie rods on the focus, and i told the wife not to drive it to the beach and back ? The tires are freaking screwed, I've already rotated them to the rear, but their on the 2nd layer rubber / wear its really screwed.

Alignment shop said toe was out as far as an inch.

I would highly recommend moog as an aftermarket supplier.  However, after working at a dealership for almost a year and previously working at an independent for 4 years, I would highly recommend oem parts over aftermarket.  I love not having any issues and knowing my parts are gunna last.
One thing, we do use a lot of ac delco instead of GM parts which are still better than many aftermarket parts.  GM stands behind them, I figure, can't go wrong
