Logging other engine parameters
« on: November 28, 2013, 01:27:41 PM »
I would like to log an Emap sensor through the EGR wiring.  I would also like to log boost and oil pressure.  What functions can I tap into in the factory wiring to log?  Also, can I add those extra functions to log in Jackal? Is there some type of code to put into jackal to add the those extra features?  I would love to log every single gauge I can.

Boost is your MAP senor....Manifold Air Pressure....

Just curious, why are you logging oil pressure?   Unless you were autocrossing and worried about oil pickup issues, I don't see where you would have value in it.

WRONG...a MAP sensor stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure...but, I wish to log my Exhaust Manifold Pressure (Emap) with a pressure sensor.  Reason being I will be switching to an hx 52 67mm compressor wheel and a 67 mm turbine.  I will be trying the BEP .55 first, then a twin scroll mani, 12cm hx35 and then maybe the bep .70 or whatever else i decide to go with. I also have two Autometer oil pressure gauges one is for the turbo the other is for the motor.  Plus its a real bitch looking at 7+ gauges while driving and concentrating on the road.  I don't always have someone to roll with me to tune my car. And help me keep an eye on everything.  WHY would you not want to log that kind of shit any way....it can be very beneficial information.

No, SOB is CORRECT.

You said you wanted to log boost (see quote above) and he was simply clarifying that it is already possible to log boost using the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure as you so condescendingly pointed out).  Doesn't look like SOB mentioned anything about logging exhaust pressure.

One person wanting to log oil pressure is probably not going to be enough to justify the amount of work/time it would take Curtis to implement.  Not to mention it's totally unnecessary IMO.  By the time you're done with a full blast pull and then look through the log to see an issue with oil pressure, significant damage to your engine has probably already been done.

I thought I replied to this yesterday but I must of not hit POST.   Oil Pressure is better to be monitored by a big red idiot light.   If you have low oil pressure the damage is already done unless you get out of the throttle immediately.

I understand what you are doing wanting to log both sides of a turbo and that makes sence in selecting the most efficient Hotside.

The only extra input on the 1g ecu is the egr monitor.

I guess I could add it in as aux in voltage, thoughts ?

Could work like a map sensor I suppose.  If you knew the scaling of the oil pressure sending unit, then it could be used to log a value in pressure.  Maybe put in the adjustment like you do for the programmable wideband option?
