ECMINK V3 cable again
« on: May 19, 2015, 10:31:16 AM »
Got the V3 cable and trying to get the cable to work with Werewolf.  I hooked it up to a pc that was originally working with hak's home made cable, but V3 gives me COM 5 AND COM 6 options and won't poll on either port. Any ideas?  I'm running WinXP.  I would have posted on the former ecmlink topic but it was locked.  The last person was helped through email.  Are there pins that need swapping on the 1991 GVR4?

Btw, is there a difference in logging with the 32 bit system or 64 bit system.  I have another system I will be using in the future which has both win 32 and 64 on separate partitions.  Curious which one to use exclusively.  Thanks all

Couldn't tell you if they changed how they work. Usually RST clicked over the setup for grounding 10-12 so the ecu would log.

Best way to figure out if they've changed anything on the cable is to download terminal, http://www.ds-map.net/terminal.exe

And then set it up with custom baud 1953.

Use whatever com port is the cable, and send !, while the car is idling, You should get a response of 22 (hex) followed by the value for rpm 00-FF

If it works out the bag, I can't tell you why its not working, but if nothing works at all when trying it, click the DTR / RTS if nothing, try CTS / DSR / CD / RI to figure out what needs to be set to make the cable work, if nothing works at all I would contact ECMLink and see if they can tell you why it doesn't work or if it is busted.

Last time I checked their cables, RTS was needed to enable the ground loop for ecu output.

The cable just started working on COM5 on a fresh laptop.  So, the error was not on Werewolf end, but mine somewhere.  I just wanted to bring closure to this topic.  The ECMLINK V3 cable does work.
