Questions about Jackal
« on: February 25, 2011, 07:56:55 PM »
First off let me introduce myself, I am 1990talonfast, I come from the dsmtalk forums and was refereed here by crackedsm.

I have a few questions bout Jackal

How is it different from Tunerpro rt?

How hard is it to learn?

Can I save my Talons stock map before I start tuning anything for fail safe purposes? (if not where can I get a stock map)

Is it easier to tune injector deadtimes with jackal the Tunerpro rt?

What cant I do with Jackal that DSMLINK can do? (or is everything the same or better)

Is Jackal easy to use like DSMLINK? I have heard Tunerpro rt takes some learning but is Jackal noob friendly?

As soon as I have the software running and send my Ostrich key how long will it take to get the confirmed key emailed back to me?

Sorry if these questions are noobish but I no nothing about the software witch I plan on buying in a few days.

man this is millions of times easier due to the fact that the GUI is all done.  there is no definition files to load for GUI for bin or logger files.  this program is specific to our car and ECU.  wanna change the dead times, you click on the misc tab and unlock the injector box then blam, use + or - or pg up or pg dn and it changes......there are many options to change.  Plus you have the ease of mind that everything just works right.  The only problem i have with tunerpro isnt the program itself, but i really dont like the idea of people making there own files, that dont have a wholehearted understanding of ECU and opcode and claiming to make these big changes cuz they think they know what is going on without full testing.  I dont want people blowing up their car and saying this program sux ect when its not the programs fault, but the person who made the definition.

the only thing is you wont have a stock map to save because you are converting the car to speed density.  you no longer use the stock maf sensor with its built in iat and baro.

you use a GM iat and GM(or other) MAP sensor.

There is a 2.0liter base map to work from.  And once you correctly setup your injectors(make, size and dead time) your car will probably run fairly well.

As for use friendliness, I had never tuned a car or so much as touched a s-afc before jackal.  Jackal was my first tuning experience, and while i am by no means and expert at tuning, I found it to be relatively easy to understand and use.

Thanks for so many responses, so do I need to buy a gm maft to use jackal? I only have ostrich at the moment and was hoping to just need the software to get every thing running, what else do I need? Can I just tune with out buying anything else until I cam get some more money? Again sorry for sounding like a huge noob.

No no maft at all.  The whole point of this is to replace the MAF sensor and use a Map sensor instead.  If you have the new Ostrich all you need is a Map sensor, gm 3bar minimum, i would say, and a IAT sensor for temp mounted in you intake piping somewhere.  After that, just wire it all up and start using Jackal.

My buddy has a 3.5bar MAP that he is willing to sell to me me a pretty good price but I didn't see a 3.5bar map listed in Jackal, does that mean I cant use a GM 3.5bar MAP?

I don't think there is a 3.5, there is a delphi 3.3 from diesels.. never heard of a 3.5 gm

Well I am going to have to use tunerpro until I get my map and air temp sensor  :shakefist well can some one post a link of both a good map and air temp sensor? I plan on upgrading to a bullseye turbo soon so I might want to go with a 3.5bar map.

Ok I can afford a MAP but I cant afford the IAT sensor until payday, is the IAT mandatory or can I run with out it until I can get one? I will not do anything crazy on the tune until I get a IAT if I can run with just the MAP for now.
