Key missing in working directory of jackal
« on: February 05, 2015, 05:48:13 PM »
Any reason the key would be missing? so I was tired of using this laptop that would only work while plugged in and finally got my own running windows 7. I still had my key from my email that was sent a while ago. When I went to the working directory to swap the key but it wasn't there? Does the ostrich have to be plugged in for it to show up in the directory?

No... but it might be a hidden file or system file I guess, it has no file extension, it is just key

so I went to local disk found program files and there is a folder named "jackal" opened it and it has the following : LIB, uninstaller, jackal, jackal.properties, and the only key is the one that I dragged into there from my email. and updater. there wasn't an existing key in that file ill keep looking around.

Yea I thought the one sent to my email I was supposed to drag on top of an existing key that comes in the jackal folder when you finish installing it.

If you do have to re send it to me ( which you may not have to) I promise this will be the last time. I have had nothing but shitty luck with second hand computers these past few years. I am sorry to take up any of the little free time you have. I hope you get some satisfaction that your helping keep this wonderful galant vr4 on the road and headed to race tracks and hillclimbs.

I downloaded drivers from the moates website I believe and some other from ftdi chips maybe? under device manager I didn't find a (!) I thought that was to dedicate com ports and stuff anyways. This is all without the ostrich plugged in because I was under the assumption the key being in the working directory had to do with the program installer. Also I might add I was not able to download java from the link in this site I had to find it elsewhere.

Ok let me try to help with the confusion.

The key, is to validate the ostrich to the software. While jackal is pretty decent software, I disable logging without an authenticated ostrich connected because I don't want people to misuse it.

So you won't ever get a ostrich drop down, or anything without an actual ostrich plugged in before you start jackal.

Jackal will not automatically create a key, because again, the key is to authenticate the ostrich, not the actual software itself. You pay per ostrich device, not per software.

This also sounds exactly like the problem im having. I dont have the CD for ostrich I bought my car with it already installed. I download the driver set it to com 3 and jackal still wont authenticate it. Is there something I would be missing.
