Wiring Colors
« on: January 28, 2011, 12:49:12 AM »
The following info has been blatantly ripped off from  http://vfaq.com/mods/2GMAF-1G.html  :wlaugh
VFAQ is your friend

The color code for the wires goes like this:  The first letter is the main color, the second letter is the color of the thin stripe on the wire.  So GW is a Green wire with a White stripe.
1 - GW  Green/white
2 - GL  Green/bLue
3 - R   Red
4 - GR  Green/red
5 - NONE
6 - GB  Green/Black
7 - GY  Green/yellow
8 - GO  Green/orange

and here's their function:
1 - Idle position switch
2 - Air flow sensor
3 - MPI control relay
4 - 5V power supply for sensors
5 - None
6 - Ground for sensors
7 - Barometric pressure sensor
8 - Intake air temp sensor

The following is an excerpt from this thread by Alex Trebec http://forums.ds-map.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=221
A) The MAF wiring we are interested in is MAF sensor pins 4, 6, 7, and 8.
B) Connect the MAP sensor A to pin 6, B to pin 7, and C to pin 4.
C) Connect the two wires from the GM-AIT to pin 8 and pin 6. It is a resistor, so polarity does not matter.

This works! With the GM Style MAP sensor pigtail, and GM IAT sensor pigtail from the junk yard and a free broken 1g MAF housing from a locally DSM'er, I save $40 making the SD hardness myself.

I wired the Freescale 4.0 bar map sensor using red as a 5V and black for ground. I trusted the wire colors and I wanted to ask you is this correct...just wanted to be sure

yes on your invoice i should have denoted the colors for you as well. Red 5v, Green Vout, Black GND

Here is the correct functions for the 1G MAF connector since the VFAQ missed a few:

1 - MAF Reset
2 - Airflow sensor
3 - +12v power from MPI relay
4 - +5V sensor power from ECU
5 - None
6 - Sensor Ground
7 - Barometric Pressure sensor
8 - Intake Air Temp sensor

Installation:

   1) DISCONNECT BATTERY!

   2) The MAF wiring we are interested in is MAF sensor pins 4, 6, 7, and 8.

                               (MAP)->(MAF Harness)

            A->6 Ground........................................(green black)
            B->7 Barometric pressure sensor........(green yellow)
            C->4 5V power supply for sensors.......(green red)

   3) IAT to pin 8 and pin 6. It is a resistor, so polarity does not matter.

                               (IAT)->(MAF Harness)

            A->6 Ground.....................................(Black)
            B->8 Intake air temp sensor............(Green Orange)

DONE INSTALLING! But dont start until these conditions are met.

   1) Make sure everything's back together, and reconnect the battery.

   2) Turn on the car, but DON'T start it. The CEL should light up, the boost gauge will go halfway up. If the car makes a lot of clicking noises, or the CEL/Boost gauge do not read correctly, turn off the car and recheck your wiring.

   3) Connect the logger, and set it to view MAP, IAT, and Coolant. MAP should be around 1.0 bar, and IAT should be equal to the outside air temp. If the car hasn't been run, coolant temp should also be about equal to this. If either of these are way off, recheck your wiring.

   4) If everything looks good, fire it up, and drive off. The CEL and boost gauge will turn off.

DONE!
