what is everything i will need to run Jackal?
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:35:51 PM »
Hello i am new to DSM's and i was looking for a cheap tuning program and i was told to check out this site because it was a good program to use. I have done some reading and I have been looking for what ill need to tune with this program? I have a 1991 eagle talon tsi fwd if that makes any difference. Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a list of the parts, prices and links that I bought from:

$175 -- Ostrich Emulator -- http://www.moates.net/ostrich-20-the-new-breed-p-169.html?cPath=95
 $40 -- SD Harness (recommended) -- http://fullthrottlespeed.com/itemdesc.asp+ic+050SD1G+eq++Tp+
 $75 -- GM 3 Bar Map Sensor (best price I've seen anywhere for the GM product) --  http://fullthrottlespeed.com/itemdesc.asp+ic+0223BARMAP+eq++Tp+
 $17 -- GM AIT Sensor -- http://fullthrottlespeed.com/itemdesc.asp+ic+001airtemp+eq++Tp+
 $3 -- 3/8 NPT Bung (Might find at local parts store) -- http://cgi.ebay.ca/3-8-NPT-Female-Aluminum-Weld-Bung-Fitting-Adapter-/190507038421?pt=Race_Car_Parts&hash=item2c5b1ab6d5
Aluminum or Steel depending on your Upper Intake Pipe.

Of course, shipping is extra..

Socketed Ecu and Wideband o2 Sensor is also required no matter what tuning solutions you choose...
Also, if you don't already have one...the Innovate Wideband is recommended because of it's programming capability.  Both of those could run ya into 4 bills...

You also need a laptop as talonfast mentioned...One that has the older 9 pin serial port is preferred.  But usb can work too with the Data Cables that Hak makes.

Just showing you where I bought my parts after shopping around.  On the old site you could buy the Ostrich here, but now I think Hak supplies the data cable and a map sensor only.

you also need a new/different/modified intake pipe.  your old one will have a return port from the BOV, and will be fairly short, locating your air filter too close to the rad fans and other hot air.  Of course you could just stuff a filter on the exhisting pipe where the MAF was and plug the BOV return port, but thats pretty ghetto and could run you into trouble later on.

I may start selling ostriches again.. but for the time being I'm mostly liquidating my store.

Just for a heads up because I never knew this, an o2 bung is the same as a 3/8in bung.  So you can possibly go to your local exhaust shop and have them weld one to a pipe of your choice this option cost me 10 bucks total.

Not exactly true, an o2 bung is a bit bigger than the IAT sensor. I believe the o2 is 18x1.5 and the IAT is 3/8 npt.

Ya...

I've got a IAT bung and an O2 bung right here on my desk... you can almost fit the IAT in the O2  :crywave

I got a IAC to fit in a o2 bung with a little teflon tape. Might work. But I welded a 3/8npt pipe fitting to my old mild steel downpipe and ran a wideband  in it.

The palmlogger cable should work just fine, its what I use. you will need a null modem cable for it though and either a PC with an old com port or something like the keyspan USB converter.
I use an old HP Laptop with the old serial port in it.
