taping in a boost gauge
« on: July 18, 2011, 12:59:51 PM »
wasnt sure where to put this so here it is...

so ive been noticing my gauge does not match up to my logs... ive tried diff map sensor settings. it makes it off by more so I went back to the orig.
I was wondering if i can tap my gauge line into the map sensor line to get a better reading at the gauge (its on the fpr line now).. or will that change the readings on the map?

Did you try a different gauge. Maybe the problem is the gauge, not the tap point

Well you want your map to have a better signal then your gauge. How far off is the gauge?

The gauge only needs to be "close" really.

at idle/vacume.. gauge says -19/-20...logger says -23/-25..

under load when I hold it at 0 on gauge.. its  about -1/-3 on logger..

under boost gauge hits about 18 psi.. logger says 9-12

Verify your map sensor under the Editor in options before logging. If its set to gm3bar, which I believe is what you have in the car right ? It should be good to go.

Whats the max psi under your VE table ? ~29 ?

either the logger is going lame, or that boost gauge is shot.

That reminds me, I rma'd 2 autometer -30/30 boost gauges, cause eventually they lost their calibration.

My last one was off by 4psi, when I rma'd it, and just suggested a 0-30 gauge. Now that one kept its accuracy  8;)

yeah so after some more logging and checking my gauge is off my 4 also.. and I was thinking of getting just a 0-40 boost gauge..
then get a seperate vacume gauge just for tuning purposes.. i had the autometer 30-30 back in 05 and it did the same thing..

so with knowing this.. I need to change my sig since I ran my time @ 4psi less lol..

The RPM gauge isn't exact too

Hak is right, my gauge never matches exactly what my MAP is reading.  Gauge reads high.  Better high than low though.  I use my gauge to give me an "idea" of where I am in case I don't have my laptop with me.

so I decided to get just a boost gauge..and will get a seperate vacume gauge later on.. (will use old boost/vac for now for tuning since I now know its off  by 4)...i was looking for a 0-40 but didnt find 1 I liked.. so I got this 0-35 which should be good since I only wanted to go up to max 34 psi with my race setup.

I picked this gauge up for 54.45 shipped from e-bay..local shop wanted 83 for it lol...hopefully this will cure my(this) problem so I can move on to the next ones lol..gauge should be in tomorrow the 4th. just in time for the weekend tuning session lol
