Hmm, that might be the problem. I went out to check out the cable again and the keyspan is connected directly to the db9 on the cable. No null modem.

Going out now to pick one up. If that solves it, i'll be upgrading to the payware when i get back.

Make sure you get a real null modem cable. Verify pins 2 and 3 switch on each end.

Well null modem installed. It switches pins 2 & 3. No change at all. No dashboard, no logging.

Same error as before "stream closed".

I checked the odb port. It all looks fine. All the pins line up with the plug and port. 1, 10, and12.

After looking at the diy logging cable thread. I realized my keyspan adapter looks alot different then the one used on that thread. Maybe a possible problem there?

Still stumped...

Well i guess not  :shakefist

I forgot that when i bought the cable it had a cheap usb adapter on the end, and installed it with that cheap adapter. I forgot to put the keyspan on it. Well i took the cheap adapter off and plugged it directly to the serial port on my old ass laptop thinking that i just solved my problem. Big fat no.

Its doing exactly the same it did before.

It should work with the null modem plugged into the serial port correct? Only reason for the keyspan is for the usb right?

So back to the drawing board i guess...

TMO doesnt work in any combination. I took the cable apart and took some shots of it. I'll upload them as soon as i get in town. No service in bfe

okay TMO no good, might wanna figure out the cable problem, heh.

That is a palm, on PC pin 2 and 3 are reverse, diode check them to verify. If cable is good, maybe a bad OBD port.

Does this look familiar at all?

Ive cut the end off already and just going the route of the diy, but just wondering if anyone's seen that before.

So where does the red wire go on the board ? and where does the black wire come from ?

Whats the best way to post a log on this site?

I made the diy cable. Got tmo to log. The values are all over the place though. Nothing is right and jumps around constantly. Rpm bounces from 0-8k for example. I noticed the link status went from 8/s to "link down" as well.

Jackal wont pick up anything still...

Well had multiple problems at the same time, what a pita. Got it all worked out.

1. The new keyspan was DOA.
2. The logging cable was also junk.

I hacked up my cable and used the parts to make the diy cable. The cable works great on its own. With the keyspan added it does nothing.

But i got it all worked out so far. Thanks guys, i really appreciate your help.

I'll be upgrading to the 1.0.5 shortly, upgrade ftw.

A sidenote to this.

I had similar problem on my PC, suddenly I could not connect to the Ostrich. after updating/revoving drivers for an hour I found out what the problem was.

I use the same PC for my Palm software, the Palm update thing start automatically when you start the PC and it actually block/Use the converted USB port even if you have nothing plugged in. which meant Jackal could not connect.

I removed the Palm software from the start group and closed it and everything worked like a charm.

Just figured I would mention it incase someone else have both on the same laptop.
