Jackal wont connect to Ostrich??
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:02:51 PM »
Sorry guys, having a super noob problem, but getting frustrated non the less. Everything is set and ready to go. All drivers and firmware are up to date. Ostrich is locked in the ecu. Laptop plugged into the ostrich with Jackal running. Problem is "ostrich" and "burnx" are constantly grayed out?

I can not get Jackal to sink up with ostrich. Is there an internal battery in the ostrich that could be dead? The switches on the side, could those effect anything? Could my old version of Jackal not like the new firmware?

Ive tried another usb cable with no success. I dont believe anything has changed since installed on my last car. It just worked before. Well its been a long day, maybe i just need some sleep  ;D

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I want to say its 20.09.xx. I will give you the exact tomorrow when ive drank a little less  :P. Yes i recently made sure the drivers and firmware was updated.

No the car will not run since the ostrich is currently blank. No tune on it at all. It ran about an hour before that on the same ecu with a stock tune chip in it on a maf.

The car just cranks repeatedly since im guessing the ecu has no info to run on atm? Ostrich, burnx, upload/download, all grayed out.

Oddly enough it seemed to be linked to a power tr unit issue i had. Im not sure if that was just coincidence or what.

How easy it is to upgrade to the newer $20 version of Jackal? It has improved logging correct?

Well another noob problem, logger wont log. Tried to poll on all three ports, no luck. Either that or opening it in excel drops the info?

Opens in excel with the date and time, and the selected parameters, but with no data underneath.

Also with every poll attempt comes an error - stream closed.

The cable im using is an old dsmloggers cable with a keyspan usb adapter.

are you clicking on the boxes at the bottom that you want to log? then hit poll.. I didnt realize this when I first started also..

click on the box next to rpm.. then hit poll.. see if it starts logging then.

Yep, it highlights in black. The excel saves have the parameters i selected on the log. There is just no info to go along with them.

Im wondering if im having the same problem as this guy http://forums.ds-map.net/logging/i-need-to-log-a-stock-car-right-now/

His cable needed additional power?

I hope its not something like a dead odb port or something. Maybe the new version of Jackal will solve it? I have 1.0.4_645. Are there any known problems with this version?

Another thing is, my laptop recognizes the usb cable, which makes me think its not that. Pretty stumped at this point.

Buy, wait to get confirmation email directly from me (tells you about keying process blah blah blah), download software, create key, send key, wait for confirmation email with new key, install key, done.

I couldn't tell you if transitioning to the payware will fix your issue.

If you are using Windows 7, 32bit to be precise. It most likely will, there is a lot of non standard crap involved with how 7 32bit works, and I had to do a lot of code revamping to get 7 working right.

I will say this thou, refunding after keying is not an option for jackal, so I don't believe you should toss money at it just yet.

Is your car a 90 ? Does your cable work with TMO ? Are you using Windows 7 (32bit)

Thanks, i will be getting the payware shortly regardless.

Nope the car is a 93'.

Since the last hd crash i lost tmo and i know its not available anymore. If anyone has a copy id love to give it a try. So what will it mean if it does or doesnt work on the tmo?

Nope the laptop only has xp 32bit on it.

Is there a way to test the cable on its own? Or is that the reason for asking about the tmo?

I would try the palm emulator then. Or find TMO, I'm sure someone has TMO maybe jeffo still has it on his site

You could diode check the cable, and make sure the pins and connector end work /shrug.

pins 2 and 3 need to be reversed, ie null modem, if your using a palm cable on a computer.
