Yes shim the lifters, when you get a stock camshaft reground to a more aggressive spec, they take material off the base circle of the cam inorder to get more lift, in return you need to shim the lifters up to take up the extra slack from the ground down base of the camshaft to get the geometry back. If you don't shim the lifters they will more than likely be very noisy and could  throw a rocker...

I personally would not go this route..but there are a lot of guys running these with no issues...

For the record, I not only did NOT have to shim the lifters, but I actually had to grind a couple thousandths off of the bottoms of the lifter to get the valves to close completely.  I had a valve job done and new valves and I am thinking that since the valves sat slightly higher in the head couple with maybe the valves being a hair longer than stock, they weren't closing colpletely so I used a bench grinder and took a tad off each lifter and they closed completely.  No brake cleaner go through afterwards.

WOW, whoever did your valve job is a dipshit and has no business doing head work, you shouldn't have to remove material from the bottom of the HLA's to get the valve to close...

when you do a valve job on a cylinder head and cut the angle of choice on the valve face yes it will move the valve up into the seat more,  BUT if you have excessive valve stem height  because of that, then the machinist should remove material from the valve stem above the grove for the lock, and shim the valve spring, to accommodate the added height ...your cylinder head if done correctly should be back to factory specs, also if your valve height is taller than spec then this will change your spring closed pressure as well as the geometry of the entire valve train....

Well I actually have 2 complete built motors.  The 1st is my old built 2.0 that had eagle rods and weisco 8.5 pistons.  The head ports was cleaned up and fp2's and evo 8 valves with dual spring valve springs.  There is a bunch of other stuff but I can't remember.  Now onto my new block which is a 2.3 stroker with eagle crank, eagle rods and weisco 8.5 pistons.  Fully ported and polished head with kelford 272's with kigley springs and all the goodies in the head.
Built 2.3 and head, shep stage 4 tranny w/ welded center diff, 1000cc inj, fp3065, dnp mani,Magnus v5 Cast IM, meth kit, eboost 2 ebc, ksport pro coilovers, 5Zigen ZR+ 17x8, Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110, 10 pt roll cage, and loads and loads of suspension stuff

Stock block .040 over with mahle power pack pistons, eagle rods, stock crank, 2g head, k 272s, BS gone, solid pulley all balanced with in a half a gram!

I would never grind my lifters just saying that's kinda freaking scary and could cause issue down the road!
k272s, eagle rods, mahle pistons, 2ghead, BC springs and retainers, 2g intake, ported 2g mani, arp head and main studs, BS removed. good ol 20g

Yeah, probably big dipshit.  Its amazing he has been in business 43 years.

BTW, 400 miles on motor last night with 0 issues that were not my fault.  Anything that's been wrong with the car overheating, timing, blah blah blah is my fault.

So when will I start seeing catastrophic failures from the way this guy did my valve job?

Ya I've never in my whole life heard of anyone just milling lifters...

Usually you chop the stems, and shim the springs

Not a biult block but a block of interest..

I have in my posession, a 93 7bolt 1g  short block...NEW, never rebiult, oem replacement right from mitsubishi! Values at $3500 in 93 according to mitsu. We found it on kijiji, did the research on the serials and its legit! WE installed it, broke it in and ran 2 times down the 1/4. Never made full boost because the ic pipe kept ppping off. Now the full motor sits in my garage waitng for a buyer with less the 500km.
