Cam Caps question with pics
« on: February 12, 2011, 01:37:16 PM »
OK, I know the cam caps for these heads are marked with "I" or "E" referencing whether they are intake or exhaust, and they also have arrows and #'s dictating which direction they should be facing and which order.  Well, I just took the VC off this head I recently acquired and please correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like the camps are in the right order but are turned improperly.  On the last cap to the right, on the exhaust side right beside the cam gear, it says "E1" with the arrow pointing towards the driver side of the car.  Well look at "E2".  Its in the right spot but shouldn't the arrow be pointing the same direction as "E1?"  I have taken pics in sequence so you can tell me if I am right or not.

Notice on this last pic, the cap on the passenger side, it has two arrows, one large pointing straight towards the driver side and a smaller one at an angle pointing towards the passenger side.

Educated input on this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Looks like all the exhaust side cam caps are flipped.

If you look all the way at the right, the arrow points the same as the intake cam caps which are correct.

See and I have others telling me they are on correctly and when the cam is in they will only go on one way (which is true) so I am guessing they are indeed correct...they won't physically go on if I flip them.

They are on right, they won't go on the other way.  Take one off and try and put it the other way and you'll see why.

If I remember correctly they point to their perspective side. Too bad it has only been like 3 years since I've tinkered on a dsm.
