2g pistons on 1g rods
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:19:13 PM »
Ok I been thinking on trying this little upgrade to my car since it broke down. I need to replace the pistons and rods sorry it's a long story but I been thinking about swaping to 2g pistons an 1g rods a friend told me I should do it but he was unsure if I had to do anything special to the piston to fit the rods he was unsure so if there is anyone who has done this could you let me know what you did to make it happen thanks guys.

1g rods have to have the wrist pin machined to accept the 2g pin size (its larger).

Depending on the price, usually it is cheaper to go forged...

Ok so it's just the wrist pin that needs to fit from the 2g piston to the 1g rod. So I just need to have the rod widened. Thanks alot hak for the info.

no the rod doesnt get widened.. it actually gets narrower... the main this is the wrist pin hole.. the 1g rod has a smaller hole than the 2g.. so if u just grind down the 1g rod and slap the 2g piston on it.. it will wobble and flop all around..

so you need to resize the hole bigger to fit the 2g pin. and it needs to be prof done at a shop cause u need to take off the same amount from each side of the rod or it will be out of balance...  <:( :willynilly

I have a set of rods here that were purchased with some evo 8 pistons on it..that looked like they was ground down by a grinder by the previous owner.  took them to the shop to have it all checked out before assymbly.. and the rods were way out of tolerances..

any good machine shop that has worked on dsm stuff before should be able to fit these together for you for a decent price..
