cam questions
« on: January 22, 2012, 06:43:56 PM »
how can i tell what brand cams i have. also how can i find out what the duration is on them. on the cams they have the letters B and a G on both cams. the G is near the cam gear and the B is pretty much all the way on the other side.  I have searched everywhere trying to figure out what these are and nobody knows. thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Well that's more then I got from a different site. I have a 93 Tsi but it has a 6 bolt block in it. Now its time for a build. The idiot bored the block and used NA pistons. So I'm just trying to figure out what I'm going to reuse if these are stock then they will be gone thanks. Oh yeah they were stock NA pistons at that.

Hmm, n/a pistons would be nice for the increase in compression for a very very mild set up. But heavy boost, they would be a no go on my build.

AS far as the cams go G & B are cast into all blanks, and the A and the F denote which grind it is.

They could still be regrinds though. Most regrinds have additional markings, like iirc delta cams marks simply "264" or "272" on one end for example.

If those are in fact stock cams from a 93-94 5 speed, then those are the largest factory cams to be put in a dsm.

I used na pistons for quite some time in my old race car.
The held up to 480hp and low 11's for an entire season.

ok so what makes these the largest stock cams? and how would i find out what the actually duration is? if i knew how to post pictures on here i would show you what happens with na pistons. but they do end up to be about 3/4 of a inch high and a rod bent into a J.

Pictures of n/a pistons incorrectly tuned.

I can post about 50 pictures of 11.3-11.5 time slips with n/a pistons.
