Wiring MAP sensor from ds-map store
« on: December 21, 2011, 01:32:58 PM »
I have the full throttle wiring harness and the 4 bar map sensor from the ds-map store.

I cut the harness that I believe is to plug directly into the GM Map sensor. :willynilly

Then I just soldered the samish colored wires from the Full Throttle harness to the wires from the store.

Did I do it correctly?

Turn the key to on, car still off, and verify the map sensor is close to 1bar.

I recently put a female on a map sensor for Kapok.. I think he had to cut slots in the male to fit the weather pack i setup.

Alright so I tried to turn on just the accessories last night, and my car wasn't getting any power at all.

I'm hoping it's just my battery that has been sitting in the garage for almost a year needs to hit the charger.

But, also my fans + o2 + rad' thermo are not plugged in, as well as maybe a few other things. Would this cause the car not to be able to get power to anything?

> Waiting for my battery to charge ATM....

ps. does the ostrich get power for the lap top's USB cable or does that need car power too, since the software didn't detect ostrich last night either.

The ostrich will use the power from the USB cable.

If you have a serious short there may be other issues involved.  I've heard a few guys stories of rats getting into their storage and eating some wires  :shakefist

Power comes in from the main fuse block, lights should work.. etc unless you have fuses blown everywhere.. I'd check that battery to see if it was totally drained. If so.. I suggest desulfating it.

Looks like the battery just needed a pick me up. And my old ass laptop needs to download software or something before it can detect the ostrich/tuning cable.

I assume I need the tuning cable plugged in to detect the MAP or can the Ostrich hook up do it?

Can you please be more specific ?

I plug the logging cable into the location under driverside dash, then plug it into my laptop.

The laptop only has 1 USB port, so I have to choose between Ostrich, and Logging Cable.  :yucky

Which do I need plugged into my laptop, to detect MAP sensor? I assume logging cable.

Jackal isn't giving me the option to switch to logger (which I assume means read the data coming from logging cable).

Okay, you can get a USB hub if you want both. I sent you your key, so make sure you put it in the working folder and restart jackal connected to the ostrich.

I'll try to make an update to jackal later today, so you can rescan the com ports... then you can swap to the logging interface once the ostrich has been authenticated and plug in your usb logger.

So I started Jackal with the Ostrich plugged in, so the logging option would be available.

Then i plugged the logging cable in, and switch to logger mode.

I highlighted IAT and MAP, and pressed poll.

Nothing happened tried on all available: COM1, COM3, COM4, LPT1 (sp?)

Error when tried COM4, said some weird message and the port was in use.

I imagine the IAT should work sense it was direct harness hook up, no soldering by me. but still no reading from it.

Thoughts?

The keyspan cable is going to use a different com port. I need to give you the option for rescanning...

Let me code it up in the next hour.

Go online with the laptop, and update jackal.. you should be able to rescan the serial ports now.

So just do what you did at first. Plug-in ostrich, start jackal, get authenticated, goto logger window. Unplug ostrich, plug in keyspan, goto File > Re-Scan Ports, and use the port# of the keyspan.

Should be good to go now.

Followed procedure only thing that is different is one of the ports from previous trial is missing. Think it was port 4.

Waited couple minutes for the poll still no numbers in the boxes below. How long does it usually take to register?

What com port is your keyspan set to ? Check device manager when you plug it in.

When watching the Device Manager the only tab that gains an item is "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" gains "USB Serial Converter"

The tab that says "Ports (COM & LPT)" gains no new items and doesn't change. It's curious that it only has COM1 and LPT1 listed when Jackal lists COM3 as well.

This sucks..
