Fan Temp/activation circuit...
« on: October 21, 2011, 10:05:31 AM »
Any easy ways to manipulate the temp the fans come on at without buying a controller? Either through jakal software or manually? Do the fans use a different coolant temp sensor than the ECU? I've noticed a couple temps sensors around the thermostat and I only use one of them? COuld I use one to control fans? Or am I stuck buying a controller?

Thanks

No ecu control. The plug at the bottom of the radiator is the thermo switch AFAIK.

You could make a tunable one with a thermistor and a couple of pots / relay. Didn't someone recently make one ?

I've been looking through some sensor books and find a sensor similar to the stock one that switches on around 190-195.  No luck yet.  3/8" NPT would probably thread into where the a/c sensor goes in the thermostat housing instead of trying to find whatever size goes into the radiator.

Yeah it's the sensor in the bottom of the radiator I'm pretty sure.  Isn't this just a thermo switch?  Normally open and then close when it reaches a certain temp?

Couldn't you just use something cheap like this FAL electric fan controoler for $29? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLX-31147/?rtype=10
