Carputer's anyone?
« on: January 06, 2012, 07:21:03 PM »
I heard about these along time ago, and always thought they would be great for tuning. Essentially it is a computer built into your car. They seems very easy to make and would be great for tuning/entertainment.

I am piecing parts together at the moment. Right now I am going to be using an old dell desktop.

This as a power supply, It powers up the computer whenever the car starts.

Ebay Link

As for the screen, im Thinking something along the lines of this, molded into the double din slot.

The rest is self explanatory, The computer would be mounted in the trunk of the car. This would have all my music loaded on it, have wifi, would be able to tune/log and even have gps.

I am planning on going touch screen. I threw the post together real quick. I have a list of all the actual parts I will be using on my other computer.

My main concern at the moment is the heat here in Tucson. In the summer time it gets up to 115 degrees. and its going to be in a black car.

This site has everything you need, mp3car.com  . They have nice little store and how section and reviews. I used a Via M1000 board when i made mine 6 years ago  and made my own case its fun.
