Boost Control Solenoids

Any suggestions regarding a particular brand of BCS (works with Werewolf)?  I was thinking OEM, but there are so many others out there (AEM, Perrin, etc.)

Yeah, the OEM BCS will explode if you try to use it as an EBC.  Friend of mine was making his own home-made EBC so he could sell them, and he tried the OEM BCS.  I think at something like 14psi it straight up exploded.  Not a little tiny pinhole opening up, no.  I mean literally just exploding into a thousand tiny pieces.

Wow, I wouldn't have known.  Thanks for the info on that.  I guess that makes sense because stock boost was between 10 and 11psi.  So any suggestions?  I guess I'd need the pinout for the wiring regarding an AEM or Perrin BCS.

Yeah, or to be honest, any kind of 3 way electronic solenoid will work.  AEM, Perrin, etc.  But, I don't know if Hak quite has the EBC function worked out properly yet.  So before you spend money, let's wait for word from him just to be sure.

Unplug stock BCS, re-write your own BSC.. mac/aem whatever.

Use boostcut / boost table to control PWM and cut off. I believe it is setup for bleeding.

if you don't have your sock BCS you can get a MAC one on Ebay for around 25 to 30 shipped....that is what i use and i love it....the hook up is a little different if you are running an internal or external gate.....

I'm tempted to try this.  Sounds easy enough, but I wonder how much of a pain it would be to dial it in right.  Did you ever get it all straightened out, Hak?

He's at the hospital with his wife so he is unavailable at the moment.  Pleaes leave your name and number and he will return your call as soon as he gets back in.......lol j/k.....  Um i honestly think its the same as its always been.  I believe one issue is that some people may not have known exactly what they are doing when trying to set this up.  It should be pretty straight forward.  Duty Cycle % is your boost pressure.  no duty cycle % will be the same on any car.  It also depends on your wastegate spring or actuator spring.  Now the higher the %, the higher your boost will be.  Now I have an eboost 2 by turbosmart and love it.  The basic premise is the same, but mine has a lot of features that you wont find with straight duty cycle % alone.  But in the end they all use the same solenoid basically, the MAC solenoid.  You can buy that solenoid from $35-$55 depending on where you purchase or buy a big name brand EBC with extra options like I did.  When I got mine it was between the eboost 2 and the HKS EVC VI.  They are both price close to each other at about $550.  Now for some that is way to much, but I love mine and all the options that come with it.  It really comes down to finances and personal preference.....

Like Ibbanez said, its been the way its been for a long time now. Nothing new about except people wanna use it. I believe it is setup as a bleed type function.

I use it with a solenoid from an apexi controller and I can regulate boost levels from 15 psi up to 27. It spikes and settles on 24 but im sure with a little tweaking it'll smooth out.

My normally open side of the solenoid goes to the wastegate

I believe my settings are 10. For the first 3000 rpm then 89 for 4000 and 75 for the rest.

so, Vlad, to be clear, you are using the boost cut dialogue in Jackal to control a solenoid for your main boost?  that is your boost control in total?

A 3 port solenoid wired into the factory boost soleniod wiring controlled by Jackal?

Hey there JohnH.  Yes that is all you have to do to have boost control in Jackal.  Im not sure if Busta is using Jackal or not, but that is how you use it.  Its basically the same on any electronic boost controller.  You just dictate how much duty cycle % you want to run at a particular rpm.  Now depending on the turbo, you may need more or less duty cycle as the rpms climb depending on the efficiency of the turbo and your setup in the upper RPM's.  Things like cams and SMIM can also affect that.

That is correct John. I'm using a 3 port solenoid wired into the bcs line and modifying the duty cycle of the solenoid at different rpm points with jackal.

It works pretty good. Reminds me of the old superchips boost controller that had sliders toadjust the duty cycle of a solenoid.
