AEM UEGO wideband and Jackal
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:36:32 AM »
As Im reading and looking at everyones signatures its becoming apparent that from what I can see everyone is using the LC-1. I bought my AEM before I decided to use the jackal program.

Can it be used with jackal or would it be easier with the LC-1 ? My UEGO is new I havent opened it yet so selling shouldnt be a problem.

I cant wait have it up and running my cars been down for 6yrs and its so close to being done I just want to have everything set up ready to go. I still have alot of work and a couple months till then.

 thanks for the help,
     brian

Someone with more experience may need to correct me, but from what I unerstand, the AEM can be used, but the LC-1 is a better choice.  It's supposedly more compatible.  I have never used the AEM, but I do love my LC-1.

I use an AEM and I got it to work just fine.  I would have used an LC-1 but I had already bought the AEM unit before I ever used Jackal.  The problem with the AEM Uego is the gauge's value does not match the logger's value.  This can be scary when you're tuning as you're not sure which value to trust.  I messed with Jackal's programmable feature until i was confident that my logged AFRs were consistent with what the gauge shows.

I use the following settings:
0v:  9.80:1
5v:  19.56:1

I bought this UEGO when they first came out (getting old) so yours might not behave the same as mine.

Thanks for the fast replies, good to hear on the Uego. I was looking and the outputs seem to be the same so I guess no need to sell it

When switching from my old MAF setup, It was nice to have the programmable feature of my lc-1 to switch from the narrow value of 0 -1v to the wideband 1 - 5v...All done with the laptop and Innovate software. Saved me from pulling out the ecu again and changing out for a different wire.
But, if you're Installing with SD in mind from the beginning, then you wouldn't have to worry about this.  But as mentioned, you'll have to play around with the O2 voltage sliders in the Jackal (Switch to logger/File/options/Edit) to match up with the Uego afr. The Lc-1 can again be programmed to match...but either way, requires some tweaking to get it just right.
Anyway, good luck with your build Brian 8)

Edit:  Just realized that if selecting Aem Uego Sensor in Jackal, the values are locked...but if requiring fine tuning, then you would select 'programmable'... I hope this is right lol ... so.....there's kind of a question here.

Programmable wideband units are favorable, for their exactness. Cause you get like this :rtfm, then :shakefist cause its not outputing what the papers say it should

I have a uego also but i dont really pay attention to it to be honest i look at the logger. A local tunner that im friends with does the same when he tunes at his shop, hes also said there kinda getting useless with loggers and everything now he had one in his STI said her just had it for dispplay never really paid any attention to it when driving. I feel the same i just like watching it go back and fourth lol.

I saw the same thing and thought my AEM UEGO needed to be calibrated!  I didn't know that I needed to change the programming.  Glad I saw this...How far off was the gauge vs. logs on your end.  Was your programmed settings "right on"   I have to try Jackal's programmable feature now, thanks for posting this.

I would say it's "just about" right on with the gauge maybe .1 off in certain areas at the most.  It was almost a whole point off before I used the programmable option.

I went out tonight tuning and for the life of me, the logger isn't working properly with the AEM Uego gauge.  I just tune using the gauge and not the logged values.  They seem to be 1.0 afr off, even with the programming feature in Werewolf.  I kept adding and adding and adding fuel to get it from 11.5 to 10.5, but it never seemed to leave 11.0, but the gauge was pegged at 10afr.  I then said "forget it" and just had my friend drive while I took fuel away until the gauge read 10.2 and noticed that there was so much dumped fuel, I backed out from almost 125 VE to 89 VE just to get the gauge to read 10.3:1.  Keep in mind, the logger was showing 11.0 when I was at 125 VE in the boost ranges.  The car pulls so much better and the knock I was getting was rich knock from adding so much fuel as per the logger.  The gauge is right.

Now, I have my Gauge output going into my O2 sensor pin in the ECU.  When I plug it into the EGRt pin, it doesn't read in the logger or change at all.  If I recall, the logger is supposed to read from the EGRt pin for the 0-5v output.  Being that I'm in the O2 spot, I assume I'm reading in the 0-1v range which is why I think my logs are so screwed up.  Any ideas?  Remember, in the EGRt slot, it doesn't read, but does give a value.
